where do you belong?
This project focuses on the title wall for a Wolfgang Tillmans exhibition, drawing inspiration from his installation approach. His exhibition layout is based on an astronomical perspective, with his works arranged in clusters like constellations rather than in rows. Tillmans once remarked, "Astronomy was my visual initiation into seeing." To create a sense of belonging for my title wall, I decided to use a webcam that captures glimpses of people as they engage with the title wall.
[documentation video]
An interactive installation where viewers become part of the image. Using a live webcam feed, participants are captured and integrated into a fragmented title wall inspired by Wolfgang Tillmans, blurring the boundary between observer and subject.
[poster series]
This poster series builds on a unified visual system, maintaining consistency while allowing variation in image scale and placement. The phrase “Where do you belong?” is fragmented and distributed across the composition, reinforcing the exhibition’s central theme of identity and belonging.
By balancing large focal imagery with smaller clusters, each poster operates as part of a cohesive system rather than a fixed composition, reflecting a fluid and adaptable approach to exhibition communication.
[brochure / ticket]
This brochure and ticket extend the exhibition’s visual system into a physical format, translating the same structural logic into a handheld experience. Rather than functioning as a traditional informational piece, the design maintains consistency with the overall system through fragmented text and distributed image groupings, allowing the content to unfold across space.
The ticket continues this approach by compressing the visual language into a compact form, where imagery and typography operate as a unified system rather than separate elements. Both pieces reinforce the exhibition identity beyond the wall, creating a cohesive experience that connects printed materials with the spatial and visual language of the show.
[exterior design]
The exterior design extends the exhibition’s visual system into public space, applying the same fragmented structure across windows and banners. Transparency and reflection allow the graphics to interact with the surrounding environment, creating a shifting composition.
These elements move the exhibition beyond the gallery, integrating it into the city and inviting passersby to engage with the question, “Where do you belong?”
[t-shirt]
This T-shirt translates the exhibition’s visual system into a wearable format, applying the same fragmented typography and image clustering onto the body. The phrase “Where do you belong?” is subtly placed on the front, while the back expands into a constellation-like composition of images, echoing the exhibition’s spatial logic.
Rather than functioning as standard merchandise, the design treats the body as an extension of the exhibition surface, allowing the visual system to move through everyday space and reinforcing the idea of identity as something carried and continuously redefined.
