Jet Propulsion Laboratory

Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a speculative rebranding project that reimagines the visual identity of one of the world’s leading space research institutions. Rather than relying on conventional aerospace imagery, the project explores how communication, experimentation, and exploration can be translated into a modular graphic system. Inspired by signals, orbital movement, and scientific interfaces, the identity positions JPL not only as a laboratory for space discovery, but as a communication hub connecting humanity to the unknown.

[logo]
The JPL logo was designed as a geometric and symmetrical identity system that reflects precision, innovation, and exploration. The mark combines the forms of the letters “J,” “P,” and “L” into a unified structure, creating a minimal yet recognizable symbol inspired by scientific systems and aerospace engineering.

The circular counterform references orbital movement and planetary motion, while the balanced proportions communicate reliability, professionalism, and technological advancement across both institutional and promotional applications.

[brand animation]
The brand animation transforms the JPL identity into a cinematic narrative centered on curiosity, exploration, and technological advancement. Beginning with a human eye and transitioning through planetary imagery, rocket launches, and mission visuals, the sequence combines atmospheric motion, scientific imagery, and bold typography to reflect humanity’s pursuit of discovery while reinforcing JPL’s visionary and forward thinking brand identity.

[poster series]
The poster series was designed to promote JPL missions through a visually immersive system inspired by orbital motion, scientific diagrams, and deep space imagery. By combining circular typography, wave based line structures, and mission specific visuals, the series translates complex aerospace research into an engaging and accessible visual language that reflects exploration, discovery, and technological innovation.

[packaging / environmental design]
The packaging system extends the JPL identity into physical applications through a clean and futuristic visual language inspired by space exploration and scientific precision. Using the brand’s signature gradients, geometric line structures, and minimal typography, the packaging creates a cohesive experience across merchandise and promotional materials while reinforcing JPL’s innovative and forward looking identity.

The environmental design translates the JPL brand into an immersive exhibition experience that combines mission data, space imagery, and interactive storytelling. Large scale graphics, orbital inspired line systems, and structured information layouts guide visitors through JPL’s research and exploration missions, transforming complex scientific content into an engaging and accessible spatial experience.

Structure

I approach design as a constructed framework rather than surface decoration. Each project begins with research and mapping, identifying relationships before defining form. Structure becomes the foundation that allows complexity to function with clarity.

Systems are not imposed visually but developed logically. Through modular thinking and controlled variation, I build identities and experiences that can expand without losing coherence.

Atmosphere

While structure guides my process, emotion shapes the final experience. I am interested in how subtle shifts in scale, spacing, and movement can influence perception. Quiet details often carry the strongest impact.

By balancing logic and feeling, I aim to create work that feels deliberate yet open, precise yet human.
