FutureLab

FutureLab is a conceptual branding and environmental design project for an imagined internal innovation lab within Ars Electronica Center. The identity combines modular graphics, immersive spatial design, and digital applications to communicate innovation, collaboration, and future-focused research.

[logo / modular typography]
The FutureLab logo represents experimentation and innovation through a modular structure. Its geometric construction reflects a space where ideas evolve through research, collaboration, and emerging technologies, while remaining adaptable across physical, digital, and environmental applications.

The custom modular typeface extends the identity system using a consistent set of geometric modules. Inspired by digital networks and interconnected systems, it reinforces FutureLab’s focus on collaboration and innovation. The modular forms also expand into patterns, environmental graphics, and spatial applications, creating a cohesive visual language across every touchpoint.

[poster series]
The poster series communicates FutureLab's vision through bold statements including "Futures Are Made, Not Found," "Prototype the Future," and "Build the Next System." Rather than functioning as promotional graphics, each poster represents an ongoing process of experimentation, encouraging audiences to see the future as something to actively create rather than passively discover.

The continuous line system acts as a subtle wayfinding element, visually guiding the viewer through the composition and reinforcing the idea of moving toward the future. The layered image treatment creates a visual pull, making viewers feel as though they are being drawn into the experience rather than simply observing it.

[spatial / banner design]
The FutureLab exhibition extends the identity into an immersive environment through clean architecture, reflective surfaces, and dynamic lighting. Custom seating, derived from the modular FutureLab letterforms, transforms typography into functional furniture while reinforcing the identity throughout the space.

The banners integrate with the exhibition architecture rather than functioning as standalone graphics. Using modular layouts, bold typography, and curated imagery, they create a cohesive visual system that guides visitors and strengthens the FutureLab identity across the space.

[website / social media]
The website translates the FutureLab identity into an immersive digital experience. Combining project archives, exhibition highlights, and timeline-based navigation, it encourages visitors to explore research as an evolving journey rather than a static collection, reinforcing FutureLab's vision of continuously shaping the future.

Structure

I approach design as a constructed framework rather than surface decoration. Each project begins with research and mapping, identifying relationships before defining form. Structure becomes the foundation that allows complexity to function with clarity.

Systems are not imposed visually but developed logically. Through modular thinking and controlled variation, I build identities and experiences that can expand without losing coherence.

Atmosphere

While structure guides my process, emotion shapes the final experience. I am interested in how subtle shifts in scale, spacing, and movement can influence perception. Quiet details often carry the strongest impact.

By balancing logic and feeling, I aim to create work that feels deliberate yet open, precise yet human.
